During my youthful years I noticed that my mother, who had an 8-grade education, would doodle little poetic verses on sheets of paper, and keep them in a certain drawer.
I first started doodling in a journal back in 1991. At that time I knew nothing about how to organize my thoughts or feelings into words. I was like a fish out of water, trying to write.
After my mother’s death in 2003, I took some of her poetry verses, and printed them into a book format for my family. This experience led me to consider my own personal notes that I had been keeping since 1991, regarding segments of my life journey. Up until this time I had no conception about writing a book, no prior experience or knowledge about how to proceed in any type of book genre.
I made several disastrous attempts to submit articles and poetry to various publishers, receiving comments back of strong, but learnt criticism. I felt and realized that after having my writings edited by a zillion critics, that I had not reflected my spiritual nature in them.
I found myself motivated by my inner spirit to write about something dear and close to my heart. In the past, I had been the founder and the Executive Advisor Consultant for Jesus Children Bible Academy (JCBA), a non-denominational non-profit biblical program.
JCBA primarily focuses on guiding young people in becoming aware of their inner spiritual strengths, an understanding of their purpose for existence, their responsibility to self, family and community, via bible teaching, tutoring, and more.
I always loved working with children, helping them navigate the storms of life (which I wrote about here in 2018), and teaching them about Jesus’ love. My message to the young regarding spiritual conduct became the inspiration for my storybooks.
Today, I’m filled with excitement to share that I’ve released my first children’s storybook, The LORD Raised Me. And, I’m in the process of publishing my second one, The Spirit Within Me. Both are stories centered on the unshakable foundation of faith; love, belief, and divine purpose.
The church has always been at the center of my family’s life, and at the center of my heart. Looking back now, it makes sense to me that my writing should reflect my inner self.
